Distant Dreams: Dream Nr. 2!

Another Dream, the one where George Harrison invites me to join his band.
It did’t go well.

“Fab Five” was dreamed in 2013.

Distant Dreams

Hello Visitor!
A new series starts today, “Distant Dreams”! Situations I dreamed that were so vivid and so complete that I felt like recording them in comicbook form. Dream Number One is “Journey”. Hope you enjoy it!

Atlantis will rise again!

ATLANTE is officially on HIATUS for an undetermined time.

These first two seasons, 54 pages in total, were just the beginning of the saga, preparing the ground for what’s coming next! There are many more stories to tell and, believe me, the best is yet to come!

In the meantime, I’ll work on other projects in 2016, stories that are buzzing in my head demanding their right to be told. Of course, they’ll all come to life here in this very site!

About ATLANTE, don’t worry yourselves. I’m not leaving the series. Quite the contrary, actually. This pit-stop will serve to better polish and structure the scripts in the works. I’ll also use the time to try to improve my storytelling skills, the craft itself so to speak: penciling, inking, writing. There’s a lot of room for improvement and experimentation. Study and learn, always! Hopefully all this effort will show on the pages upon our triumphant return!

When does the third season begin? Well, like I said, the hiatus is for an undetermined length of time but you’ll be warned of the imminent return of ATLANTE! I’ll be shouting from the rooftops prior to relaunching the adventures of Yanin e co. Keep visiting us on the website and following us on Twitter and Facebook! The blog will still be active with my humble articles and news concerning the production of the stories!

Many thanks to you, o faithful reader, that has always followed ATLANTE with your praise, suggestion and criticism . This site is for you!

Quoting the oldest of clichés, one I hear since I was a child: Atlantis (and ATLANTE!) will rise again…

Soon…

“Then listen, Socrates, to a tale which, though strange, is certainly true…”

Thus the greek philosopher Plato begins his famous dialogue “Timaeus”, where Atlantis is mentioned for the first time. In his narrative, the island of Atlantis is portrayed as a mighty maritime power subduing by force the people of the Mediterranean Sea. The city of Athens, however, bravely resists and defeats the atlantean invaders. Tidal waves and earthquakes follow and, in one day and one night, Atlantis disappears under the ocean. How much of history is there in the legend? Did Atlantis exist?  Was it just a storytelling device, a powerful enemy invented by Plato to highlight the glory and valor of athenians?

It’s a theme that has always fascinated me. Civilizations that are born, reach their prime  and eventually, die. The Aztecs, the mayans, the incas… How many others have existed without any vestiges left ? How many remain to be discovered?  Also intriguing is the saga of the people without a land to call their own, people who have fought, and still fight, to keep their culture and traditions as exiles. The roma, jews, palestinians, kurds, just to name a few. Even more tragic is the struggle of native-american nations all over the Americas for a future, some already exterminated, some still fighting.

My genuine interest in these questions made me develop ATLANTE (Atlantean), the webcomic. It’s my fictional answer to the question “What if the atlanteans are still out there?”.  Fantasy and fact mixed in an action and adventure story, with some mystery and espionage thrown in. The pages  you are reading are just the beginning of what I expect to be a long journey. Hope you’ll follow me in this trip!

Was Atlantis in Sardinia?

From  “The Guardian”: the island of Sardinia, in the Mediterranean Sea, might be what remains of Plato’s Atlantis! According to the greek philosopher,  the mythical island would be located beyound the then called “Pillars of Hercules”, refering to the strait between Sicily and Tunisia, not the strait of Gibraltar, between Spain and Africa, as it was commonly supposed from the third century BC onwards.

Archaeological evidence suggests that Sardinia was home to a powerful maritime civilisation that was destroyed by a huge tidal wave circa 1200 B.C. Earthquakes and tidal waves were not that uncommon in the Mediterranean. Since 2004  scientists have identified 350 events of this type in a 2,500-year period. The sardinian catastrophe is described in inscriptions found in the mortuary temple of Ramesees III and also in the Old Testament. The Book of Ezekiel refers to the destruction of the port of Tharrus in these words: “Who is like Tyre, Like her who is silent in the midst of the sea? When your wares went out from the seas, You satisfied many peoples; With the abundance of your wealth and your merchandise You enriched the kings of earth. Now that you are broken by the seas In the depths of the waters, Your merchandise and all your company Have fallen in the midst of you. All the inhabitants of the coastlands Are appalled at you, And their kings are horribly afraid; They are troubled in countenance. The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; You have become terrified And you will cease to be forever.”
