As many readers of “Atlante” have already noticed, I’m heavily influenced by american comics from the 40’s to the 80’s. So much so that I’d like to recommend “Blazing Combat”, a favorite of mine from that period.
“Blazing Combat” was published in the sixties by Warren Publishing. Unfortunately, the magazine lasted only four issues. Even with the talents of Wally Wood, Alex Toth, Al Williamson, Gene Colan, John Severin, Russ Heath, the magazine was rejected by the market due to the perception of being a publication against the Vietnam War. The stories were all written by Archie Goodwin and have indeed a more humanistic and bitter approach towards the reality of war. Definitely, not a magazine with glorious adventures for the taste of patriot warriors. Some people don’t like to be remembered of the real meaning of war specially when it’s not them, or their children, who are dying in the front.
I keep at home a hardcover american edition collecting the orginal four issues of “Blazing Combat”. I never get tired of flipping through its pages .The art is fantastic, all covers by Frank Frazetta! Search fot it! It’s worth the hunt!
